The Enduring City
Project type
Academic - Urban
Date
2020
Location
Haifa port, Israel
In collaboration with Omer Ittah & Amit Seren
The global pandemic that has hit us since 2020 is undermining the way we experience the city and we understand that we aspire to live in a completely different space than we know today. The public space, which sometimes functioned as a border, was examined as an essential cornerstone and highlighted the societal need for openness, flexibility and the possibility of change.
Today in the port area, buildings are planned at a distance from each other over a wide area, most of which is violated by private entities. Thus, the open spaces defined as efficiency are reduced, and the experiential movement decreases, Economic interests outweigh the public interest to the point of damaging human and social ties.
The project is an experiment that treats the current period as a "sieve" that reexamines the list of basic urban values.
In its first stage, the project was planned as a prototype-a set of rules detached from physical context, And then he began to become attached to the unique planning space.
